Studies the principles of argumentation and practice in debate techniques with special emphasis on reasoning and research, case construction, refutation and rebuttal. Study of the speech organs and their functions, building awareness of the individual speaking voice. Study of the International Phonetic Alphabet with the goal of achieving Standard American speech. Training and development of articulation, projection, voice quality, rate, and pitch.

Introduction to basic photographic techniques with emphasis on technical skills and aesthetic principles.
Examines the elements of cinema, terminology of film production, and introduces the field of film analysis. Focuses on film literacy including the awareness of the development of this medium and its genres, the audio and visual process of filmmaking, trends in the film industry and the analytic tools to learn to read films as informed and framed viewers.
Course examines how environments are constructed to inhibit listening. Poor listening habits lead to poor interpersonal and intercultural skills in both relational and leadership roles. This course does not address the biological process of listening (i.e. hearing) but topics instead focus on the social and communicative nature of how we come to know, embody, and share meaning as well as research in Listening Studies to discover factors that cause information to be passively backgrounded.
Interdisciplinary course explores the theories and skills of interpersonal communication, mass madia, rehtoric, and culture to evaluate how sports are portrayed and consumed. Topics include types of communication for different roles, the effects of race, gender, politics/nationality and gender on types of sports communication, the evolution of sports media including its role in sports and society, as well as biases and trends. Sports rhetoric, mythology, and heroism are examined. Learning outcomes evaluated by a performance assignment.

Topics include causes of disasters and their effects on the environment, economy, communities and businesses.
